The Story

I’m Ali.
I make stuff.

This is where I make stuff.

Who are you?

I am a human living with her dog and other half. We recently relocated to the ‘third coast’ and are based out of Chicago. I am a world traveler, a sister, a friend, a collector, a kid at heart, and a teacher. If I had to pick one food to eat for the rest of time, it would probably be tacos. But ask me tomorrow because the answer may change.

What do you make?

I have long been a maker and an artist. I studied studio art in school but was pretty consistently known for having the most messy and explosive studio space because I was always experimenting. Right now, the studio is dedicated to printmaking and amateur woodworking. My favorite thing is taking scrap and building something useful in any medium.

What inspires you?

Going on hikes, listening to history podcasts, browsing bookstores, digging in garden dirt, leading children’s tours in museums, taxidermy, my artist friends, my science friends.

FAQs

Can you tell me more about your process?

My art is the result of constant curiosity and experimentation. I spend a lot of time thinking, dreaming, and writing stuff down on paper.

The first phase is always drawing. I will sketch shapes and pieces from photos I have taken, images from books, or set up a collection of objects to use as a starting point.

Then, for prints, I will often make ‘final drawings’ which can be transferred onto the printing block to be carved out. Transferring the drawing instead of doodling on the block itself ensures that the image always gets printed the right way around.

Once the blocks are carved, the time for printing has arrived. All images get test printed first, usually several times, to make sure they look as good as they can. Then they get printed on the nice paper, hung up to dry like laundry, listed online, and shipped to your lovely home!

What can I expect to get in the mail?

All items are thoughtfully packaged in recycled and recyclable materials designed to protect your piece and the planet. You can expect:
- Print on paper wrapped in tissue paper sealed with hand printed sticker or twine
- Sent in rigid flat mailer sealed with recycled and reinforced water activated tape, stamped with the exclusive collection image (if applicable)

How should I frame my print?

In the interest of sustainability, I suggest checking your local thrift or second hand store for frames first! Not only will they likely be cheaper but they can add character to the artwork and to your home. For other options, I would recommend Blick or Michaels for relatively inexpensive but lovely, simple frames.

What is an open edition print?

While some Artist Prints come in limited batches with the guarantee that they will not be reproduced, I reserve the right to reuse one or all of the blocks/stamps for future products or collections. Your piece is still always printed by hand, making it unique and one of a kind.

I still have a question.
